"Empty Space” is a love-letter to live theater, a nine-episode web comedy that explores and glorifies the world of diehard thespians, those hardcore beasts of the theater who soldier on against the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune because, after all, the show must go on.
Written and Directed by Devon Armstrong, Empty Space was made possible by the Downtown Repertory Theater Company in a co-sponsorship with the City of Los Angeles, the Department of Cultural Affairs, and the Warner Grand Theater.
The cast and crew were all volunteers, and funding was raised doing donation-based theater in downtown Los Angeles. The Downtown Rep. started in an unused parking structure, before entering into a co-sponsorship with the El Pueblo Historical Monument. We now perform at the Historic Pico House, a 3-story brick courtyard built in 1870 by Pio Pico, the last Governor of Mexican Alta California. We have been in residence at the Pico House for the last 7 years.
